Top Ten Tuesday #66: Ten Books That Should Be Read In Creative Writing Classes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This Week's Topic:
Ten Books That Should Be Read In Creative Writing Classes

When I took a Creative Writing class in high school, we would spend one day each week just reading, so here are a few books that I think students should read!

1.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

2.
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

3.
Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1)

4.
Something Strange and Deadly (Something Strange and Deadly, #1)

5.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)

6.
The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #1)

7.
Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

8.
A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)

9.
Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)

10.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)

If I were to teach Creative Writing, I'd want my students to read a wide variety of works. From Middle Grade to New Adult, and Fantasy to Historical Fiction, I'd want them to experience different genres to find out which one they like the most. DoSaB was actually recommended to me by my CW teacher, and I recommended The Chemical Garden Trilogy to her after she saw the chapter page design.

What would you have your Creative Writing students read?

Top Ten Tuesday #18

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week is a freebie, so chose the top ten books that I would sell my first born child to have right now!

10.
A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)
I know this book already came out, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet! I've heard great things and I need it now!!

9.
Every Last Breath (The Dark Elements, #3)
I want to add that I hate these new covers. Just sayin' the other ones were better. I still need to read the second book, but it's JLA so it'll be perfection!

8.
Manners & Mutiny (Finishing School, #4)
I still need to read the third book, but this series is super cool! I still need to catch up on the Parasol Protectorate series, but this is a nice YA version of it!

7.
Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)
I can't wait to get to know Winter! I just seems so fascinating and tormented and I can't wait to get in her mind! And a happy ending would be great too!

6.
Broken Crowns (Internment Chronicles, #3)
I really like this trilogy, not as much as her Chemical Garden trilogy, but it's still great! I want to know what happens between Internment and the world below! And I love Pen!

5.
The Vanishing Throne (The Falconer, #2)
This is the UK cover, but I don't know if it will look different for the US version. The ending of The Falconer was so crazy and I need the sequel to know what will happen!

4.
Untamed (Splintered, #3.5)
I plan on started Ensnared later today, and I know that I'll be desperate for this book once I finish!

3.
The Winner's Kiss (The Winner's Trilogy, #3)
I about cried after the ending of The Winner's Crime! I'm so mad at Tensen and I just want Kestrel and Arin to be together!

2.
Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4)
Some queenly shit better be going down or I'll have to punch someone! And, pretty please, a Celaena and Chaol reunion! I don't want to give up!

1.
Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1)
This book was supposed to come out at the end of this year, but it got pushed back! Sob! It's Susan Dennard, so of course I'll love it!

I need these books, like, yesterday! I can't wait for all of these books and am super excited!

This week is all about the top ten authors that we would love to meet!

I just started The Winner's Crime, and I already know that it's going to be an emotional rollercoaster! And the cover for The Winner's Kiss was just revealed!

4.

Megan Shepherd
I'd love to know where she got all of her inspiration and ideas for her The Madman's Daughter trilogy! And her new trilogy sounds amazing! I need to get my hands on it!

3.
Susan Dennard
Susan Dennard
I've almost met her. TWICE. She was doing a book signing, but I couldn't go because it was the day after I got my wisdom teeth out. And the second time I couldn't get off work to go! I loved her Something Strange & Deadly trilogy and can't wait for Truthwitch!

2.
Sarah J. Maas
Sarah J. Maas
She seems so sweet and her writing is fantastic! Plus she loves ballet so I'd want to talk about that with her, as I am a dancer and love people who support it! I can't wait to get my hands on A Court of Thorns & Roses!

1.
J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling
Bow down to the Queen! Harry Potter is what helped increase my love for books, even though I read it when I was 15/16, a lot older than everyone else when they read it. I've been to The Elephant House, where she wrote some of the books, and it was an amazing experience!

These are all of my favorite authors! Well, ten of them anyway. They're all incredibly amazing and they're books will always be favorites! Because of this, I really want to meet them! Hopefully one day...

Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.
In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

"Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1)" by Lauren DeStefano

Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1)5 out of 5 stars

Read November, 2012

Pages: 358
Published: March 22, 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

This cover is stunning. Absolutely STUNNING. I love everything about it. The dress the model is wearing, I would wear it, and her crazy hair. I love how her ring, the bird in the cage, and her sad expression are brought to attention by being circled.
