"Starters (Starters and Enders, #1)" by Lissa Price

Can I just start off by saying that this cover is really creepy.

But I think that it connects well with the story. The girl on the cover is kind of blank and empty, and that's all that the teenagers are to the Enders, people over the age of 60. They use the bodies of the Starters to be young again. It's so creepy, the thought of having someone else inhabit your body. And you're pretty much in a coma.

On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Renée Winters was still an ordinary girl. She spent her summers at the beach, had the perfect best friend, and had just started dating the cutest guy at school. No one she'd ever known had died. But all that changes when she finds her parents dead in the Redwood Forest, in what appears to be a strange double murder.
After the funeral Renée’s wealthy grandfather sends her to Gottfried Academy, a remote and mysterious boarding school in Maine, where she finds herself studying subjects like Philosophy, Latin, and the “Crude Sciences.”
It’s there that she meets Dante Berlin, a handsome and elusive boy to whom she feels inexplicably drawn. As they grow closer, unexplainable things begin to happen, but Renée can’t stop herself from falling in love. It’s only when she discovers a dark tragedy in Gottfried’s past that she begins to wonder if the Academy is everything it seems.
Little does she know, Dante is the one hiding a dangerous secret, one that has him fearing for her life.
Dead Beautiful is both a compelling romance and thought-provoking read, bringing shocking new meaning to life, death, love, and the nature of the soul.

I thought this book had such a cool idea. It's like... a retelling almost of the story of Adam and Eve. I feel like people will get made at me of saying that.

Whatever. Anyways, it's all about how this girl, Eve/Evening/E.V., who is told to make the perfect boy. If I made a perfect boy, this would be him...

To be honest, I didn't think that I would like this book. I read the synopsis and thought that it sounded stupid. But after reading so many glowing reviews raving about how it was amazing, I thought I'd give it a try. I was so wrong. This book was freaking AMAZING! After I finished, I just stared up at the ceiling because I didn't know what to do. I was confused as to what I should do next. I didn't have Scarlet, so I felt kind of empty.

I was SOOOOOOO excited to find this book! I've read multiple fairy tale retellings, but this one is my favorite. I come from a proud Norwegian family (we're descendants of a king!), and this is a retelling of the Norwegian folk tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon.

I LOVED the first two books. But this one, this one I couldn't stand! Lily just complained on every page! Come on! You have a tail fin but no backbone?!?

description

Maybe I'm used used to female characters that don't whine all the time, like Cinder (
Cinder), Scarlet (Scarlet), and Katy (Obsidian).
