Waiting on Wednesday #45: "Warcross" by Marie Lu

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Warcross (Warcross, #1)

Title: "Warcross"
Author: Marie Lu
Expected Publication: September 12, 2017

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.
While I have yet to finish a series by Marie Lu (because I'm a trash human), I have absolutely loved all of her books. I'm fascinated by the idea of a virtual world and can't wait to see how everything plays out. Plus I've only heard great reviews!

Bookish Bingo: Summer 2017 Results and Fall 2017 Board

Bookish Bingo is a super cool feature created by Bekka at Pretty Deadly Reviews that I love to follow. It provides a bunch of great challenges, and you want to try to get as many bingos as possible!

Wow, had no clue "bookish" wouldn't show up with my background. Well... I have been meaning to make changes anyways.
Summer Board
I ended up only getting two bingos. I actually totally forgot about the board, but a bunch of books I read fortunately fit the challenges.
Fall Board
I haven't really decided what books I plan to read yet, but they will primarily be books for #TheReadingQuest and Sequel September.

Do you plan on joining?

Sequel September Readathon

Sequel September is hosted by Kathy at Books and Munches.

  • Post a blogpost saying you’ll be joining me in my battle against the TBR-sequels and pingback to this post
  • Share your list of all the TBR-sequels that you own and then decide which ones to give priority to
  • If you’re sharing your updates on social media, use #SequelSeptember so we can follow up on each other
  • [No rule] Maybe, just maybe I’m going to give a random participant a little something

My Potential TBR
  •  Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
  • Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes
  • Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken
  • Champion by Marie Lu
  • Deliverance by C.J. Redwine
  • The Hunt by Megan Shepherd
  • Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab
  • Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton
  • Starfall by Melissa Landers
  • The Rose Society by Marie Lu
  • The Gauntlet by Megan Shepherd
  • The Midnight Star by Marie Lu

  • Emerald Green by Kierstin White
These aren't all the unread sequels I have, but they are just some of the many. My goal is to read 4, and I think I have plenty to choose from. Depending on other challenges/readathons/etc, I may read some other sequels that aren't listed.
