There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's other half is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon--and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude--or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

In the review for Half-Blood, I discussed how much the book reminded me of Vampire Academy. And I'm happy to say that this book didn't remind me of that series as much. There were still some similarities, but they weren't as strong. The book diverged from that path and I 'm so happy that it did!

It picks back off where Half-Blood ended. Alex is back at Diety Island and is still training to prove that she deserves to stay there. She's back to dealing with the EXTREME sexual tension between her and Aiden, who is incredibly hot and cold. It's obvious that he's attracted to her, he needs to accept it. I know that they technically aren't allowed to be together, but they should just run away and try to live a normal life!

And then there's Seth. I'm annoyed by him. He acts all lovey dovey, and then he's a dick. I don't know what to expect with him. He was aggravating. He talk about how he cares about Alex so much and then he's screwing some other girl. Like, dude, make up your mind!

When Alex, Aiden, and Seth have to go to New York for an important meeting. The relationship dynamics change. I don't want to give anything away, because it is so important, but I will say that it really changed my opinions about Aiden and Seth. There is an especially important thing that happens, that you just need to read for yourself so you can see if it changes your thoughts!

At the very end, some of my feelings had changed. There are a couple REALLY emotional events that I about cried at. And as I said before, some of the relationship dynamics change. I NEED the third book so I can find out what happens!

Alex
Still awesome! She becomes a little less Rose-like, which is great. As much as I loved Rose, I don't want Alex to be the same as her. She needs to be he own person.

Aiden
As much as I love him, I had some issues with him. He needs to be honest with himself and let loose! He just needs to relax and realize that he sound be with Alex and run away!

Seth
I started off hating him, but not I don't dislike him as much. I still don't really like him, and I have my issues with him, but I don't think that he's as terrible now.

Overall, I liked this book much better than the first. It got away from being so much like Vampire Academy, which is great! I can't wait for the third book and can't wait to see how the relationships change in that one!

  1. I felt the same way about Half-Blood, that it seemed a lot like Vampire Academy, and I agree that JLA moved away from that here! And also, Seth drives me crazy too! (warning, it doesn't get much better lol). I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!!

    1. Well that's annoying that Seth doesn't get better. I'm really excited for the other books!
